Our Editorial Standards

Homeowners make expensive decisions from what they read after a flood or a fire. This page sets out exactly who writes the guidance on this site, what it is checked against, and how we correct it when we get something wrong.

Who writes and reviews this content

Our content is written and reviewed by the Pro Max Restoration technical team, the same IICRC-certified technicians who carry out water damage restoration, mold remediation and fire damage recovery across Toronto and the GTA every day. Guidance on this site reflects the IICRC S-500 and S-520 standards and what we see on real GTA properties, not generic advice.

We deliberately publish under the Pro Max Restoration Technical Team rather than inventing a named individual expert. The guidance here is the collective output of the technicians, estimators and project managers who attend GTA losses every week, and attributing it to one person would misrepresent how it is produced. Every technical page is reviewed by a technician who performs that category of work before it is published, and the visible review date on each page reflects that check.

Pro Max Restoration has operated in Toronto and the GTA since 2009, has restored 600+ properties, and works from 1875 Leslie St, Unit 24, North York, ON M3B 2M5. Our about page sets out the company background, and our reviews page publishes customer feedback unedited.

Methodology

How claims on this site are verified

Measured, not estimated

Moisture claims come from calibrated pin and pinless meters and FLIR thermal imaging, compared against an unaffected area of the same building. Readings are logged daily until materials reach the IICRC dry standard, and the log goes to the customer and the insurer.

Written against published standards

Water guidance follows the IICRC S-500 standard and mold guidance follows IICRC S-520. Asbestos guidance follows Ontario Regulation 278/05. Where a page states a protocol, it is the protocol our technicians work to, not a generic description.

Grounded in completed GTA projects

Cost ranges, timelines and local risk profiles reflect work carried out on more than 600 properties across Toronto and the GTA since 2009, not figures copied from national averages.

Costs are ranges, never quotes

Pricing on this site is presented as a planning range for the Toronto market. A firm number only ever comes from an on-site assessment, and every page that discusses cost says so.

Reviewed and dated

Every page carries a visible last-updated date. Pages are revisited when a standard, a municipal program, an insurance practice or market pricing changes, and the date is updated when the content is.

Corrections are made, not quietly removed

If something here is wrong, tell us and we will check it against the standard or the source and correct the page. Contact details are on every page of the site.

The certifications behind the guidance

Every credential listed here is one we hold and work to. We do not claim awards, memberships or accreditations that cannot be verified.

IICRC S-500 Certified

The ANSI-approved Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration. It governs how water losses are categorised, how structures are dried and how "dry" is verified with moisture readings rather than guesswork.

IICRC S-520 Certified

The ANSI-approved Standard for Professional Mold Remediation. It governs containment, negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, safe removal of affected materials and post-remediation verification.

Ontario O. Reg. 278/05 Compliant

Asbestos abatement is carried out to Ontario Ministry of Labour regulation O. Reg. 278/05, covering Type 1, 2 and 3 operations, air monitoring and disposal at licensed facilities.

Licensed & Fully Insured

We are a licensed and insured Ontario restoration contractor, and we carry the coverage required to work in occupied homes, condominiums and commercial properties.

Direct Insurance Billing

We bill Intact, Aviva, Desjardins, TD Insurance, Wawanesa, Co-operators and other major Canadian carriers directly, and we document every loss to the standard adjusters expect.

Calibrated Measurement, Not Guesswork

Every job uses FLIR thermal imaging and calibrated moisture meters, with daily readings logged until materials reach the IICRC dry standard. You receive that documentation.

Sources we check against

Ontario-specific regulatory, insurance, municipal and health claims on this site are checked against the following authorities, and linked from the pages that rely on them.

IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification)

The ANSI-approved S-500 water damage and S-520 mold remediation standards our technicians are certified to.

Health Canada

Guidance on moisture and mould in the home. All health-related statements on this site defer to Health Canada rather than offering medical advice.

Insurance Bureau of Canada

Reference point for how Ontario home insurance treats water, sewer backup, overland flood and fire perils.

City of Toronto — Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program

The source for subsidy amounts and eligibility referenced in our basement flooding guidance.

Ontario Ministry of Labour — O. Reg. 278/05

The asbestos regulation governing Type 1, 2 and 3 operations, air monitoring and disposal in Ontario.

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority

Watershed and floodplain information underpinning the local flood-risk sections of our city and area pages.

Our editorial principles

  • Written and reviewed by IICRC-certified technicians who perform this work daily.
  • Technical guidance follows the IICRC S-500 (water) and S-520 (mold) standards.
  • Ontario-specific insurance and municipal information is checked against Insurance Bureau of Canada and City of Toronto sources.
  • Cost ranges reflect real GTA project pricing and are presented as estimates, never as quotes.
  • Pages carry a visible last-updated date, and we revise them when standards, programs or pricing change.
  • We do not publish medical advice; health guidance links to Health Canada.

Corrections and feedback

If you find something on this site that is inaccurate, out of date, or contradicts a current standard or municipal program, tell us. We will check it against the source, correct the page, and update the last-reviewed date. We would rather be corrected than be wrong in front of a homeowner who is about to spend thousands of dollars.

What this site is not. Nothing here is legal, insurance or medical advice. Insurance sections describe how Ontario policies commonly work, but your own policy wording, and in a condominium your corporation's declaration and by-laws, govern. Health statements defer to Health Canada. Cost figures are planning ranges for the Toronto market, never quotes — a firm price only comes from an on-site assessment.
